The Resident Evil 8 inventory screen confirms a few interesting details about the game. For one, players will have access to a LEMI handgun, likely to be their first gun in the game. The handgun itself has two slots in the bottom lefthand corner, indicating that players will likely be able to upgrade or enhance it in some way. Resident Evil 8 players will also get a knife early on, and they will be able to heal using medicine bottles.

The Resident Evil 8 inventory screen image also shows that players will have to manage their inventory like in classic RE games, as they will have limited space to work with. They will also be able to switch between weapons quickly using the d-pad, and the game will have some kind of currency system as well. The upper right-hand corner shows that RE8 protagonist Ethan Winters has 100 Lei, which appears to be a coin of some sort.
Resident Evil 8 takes place in a remote mountain village, so perhaps players will be able to use Lei coins to make purchases there. Maybe there is someone that is the equivalent to the Resident Evil 4 merchant that players will be able to interact with, or maybe the Lei coins are used at upgrade benches. All of this is just speculation, though, as Capcom still has yet to reveal some of the more specific details about Resident Evil 8 and what it will entail gameplay-wise.
So far, the reception to Resident Evil 8 has been largely positive. While Resident Evil 8 is a departure from series norms, trading the typical horrors of zombies and bio-weapons for occult terror, witches, and werewolves, the game still has that distinct RE flavor. It looks like the natural next step after Resident Evil 7, and many fans will be hoping that it lives up to the high bar set by that game.
Whether or not it does remains to be seen, but fans hopefully don’t have to wait too much longer to find out. According to a reputable leaker, the Resident Evil 8 release date is currently planned for some point in January 2021, though it could slip to February or March. Survival-horror fans will just have to wait to learn more.
Resident Evil 8 will launch in 2021 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
