This modern take on the original Resident Evil game has been built in the RE4 engine which not only boosts the visuals, but also uses the controls and inventory system of Resident Evil 4. The remake is being created by Mr. Curious with play footage being uploaded recently to the YouTube channel Residence of Evil. Forty-seven minutes of footage, to be exact.

The reason for the footage is to showcase the work Mr. Curious has put into the remake so far, but it’s also there to gain feedback not only from the YouTube channel showing it, but from the wider gaming community as well. After all, any developer, big or small, should know how important feedback from fans can be.

The footage shows a section of Resident Evil Remix with the classic over-the-shoulder camera look that made RE4 stand out from its predecessors. Unsurprisingly, despite it being a remake of the original game, it looks visually identical to the fourth installment, just with Chris and Rebecca as opposed to Leon and Ashley. Also, the areas of the game are the same as RE4 which have been altered and switched around to match the map of Resident Evil 1. Mr. Curious is also using the 3D models from the official Capcom remake of Resident Evil. It looks like a mighty fine reboot. Not quite as out there as the recent Resident Evil 3 remake, but it’s absolutely an impressive feat for an individual project and mixes the nostalgia of the original with the high praise of RE4.

The Remix has been in development for some time now, and while he’s still working on improvements, there is no definite public release date for Resident Evil Remix yet. It’s also worth mentioning for anyone interested in the remake that a legitimate copy of RE4 on PC will need to be installed as the fan remake is just a mod and not a standalone game. That’s arguably a small price to pay for what is shaping up to be a fantastic looking homage from a diehard Resident Evil fan.
