Given that Resident Evil Resistance is not canon, many fans will hope Capcom releases future updates with new content, and some of Resident Evil’s most iconic villains could make great additions to this game.

In Resident Evil Resistance, the player who controls the villain actually takes control of a Mastermind, who sits at a terminal deploying traps, monsters, and other exploits before finally unleashing one particularly devastating monstrosity on the four players controlling Survivors attempting to escape. Currently, four Mastermind’s in Resident Evil Resistance and their deployed monstrosities have been revealed by Capcom in Resident Evil Resistance for players to control.
Daniel Fabron can unleash and take control of a Tyrant, Annette Birkin can deploy the G-Virus-infected Dr. William Birkin on players, Alex Wesker has an Ivy and Plant 42-inspired monster known as the Yateveo, and Ozwell Spencer will unleash himself on players. Additional Masterminds and their deployed monster counterparts have been chosen which would make worthy additions to future updates or DLC for Resident Evil Resistance.
Albert Wesker and Uroboros Albert Wesker
If there is one villain in the Resident Evil series fans would enjoy having in Resistance perhaps most, it would be none other than Resident Evil’s iconic villain Albert Wesker himself as he makes annihilating his foes seem smooth, casual and business as usual, with his bluetooth ear-piece and sunglasses intact as well. Given that Ozwell Spencer is already a Mastermind who can deploy himself into the battlefield confines against survivors, it would make sense for Albert Wesker to do the same, given his super-human abilities thanks to the Uroboros infection.
Nikolai Zinoviev and the Nemesis
Nikolai Sinoviev may not be one of the most iconic nor remembered villains in the Resident Evil franchise, but he was the secondary antagonist in Resident Evil 3. Given that Resident Evil 3’s Nemesis is one of the most frightening and iconic monsters in the Resident Evil franchise to date, so it seems that it would be most appropriate to include the Nemesis as a major threat to survivors in Resistance.
Given that Nikolai was sent by Umbrella Corporation to Raccoon City to observe, gauge, and report on the performance of their Bio-Weaponry experiments, of which the Nemesis is its most valuable asset, it would make sense for Nikolai to be the Mastermind associated with a Nemesis in Resistance.
Ramon Salazar and The Chainsaw Man
Ramon Salazar was one of Resident Evil 4’s villains, and though he was not the main villain, his role in governing the mountainous fortress and surrounding area would make him a great role for being a Mastermind. Furthermore, his eerie child-like appearance and wild taunting resonates the characteristics of a control freak.
Unleashing Resident Evil 4’s masked chainsaw wielding Los Illuminados cultist, known simply as The Chainsaw Man, would add to Salazar’s frenzied chaos. The Chainsaw Man appears as if to be some sort of villain akin to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and the sound of the saw certainly does its job in getting under the players skin.
Alfred Ashford and Alexia Ashford
Alfred Ashford, similar to Ramon Salazar, carries an overly enthusiastic tone which comes off as both desperate and excited simultaneously. Mix that in with his dual personality in which he believes he is his sister Alexia and his role in governing Rockfort Island in Resident Evil CODE: Veronica, and he would make a perfect Mastermind who is both a control freak and frighteningly crazed.
The T-Veronica infected Alexia Ashford would make perfect sense for Alfred to deploy. Though, in the actual game, Alfred was following her awakening from cryogenenic suspension, once again this can be overlooked given Capcom’s choosing to not make the series canon. If some semblance of chronology were maintained intact, then perhaps Alexia could be woken up early and temporarily as a means to deal with the survivors.
Dr. James Marcus and Lisa Trevor
Given Dr. James Marcus in Resident Evil 0 is on bad terms with Umbrella and only lives on thanks to the infection of his T-Virus carrying leeches, it would make some sense for him to use Lisa Trevor as his ultimate weapon in which to unleash on survivors. Lisa Trevor is perhaps one of Resident Evil’s creepiest monsters but was also an unfortunate victim of Umbrella who endured many hideous deformities and genetic mutations which ultimately drove her mind mad, turning her into an especially hostile and terrorizing threat. In many ways, both Dr. Marcus and Lisa Trevor were victims of Umbrella’s hostilities, in different ways, and teaming them up would make for a worthy choice for Mastermind and monster in Resistance.
Lucas Baker and Eveline
Lucas Baker sociopathic tendencies, sadistic mind games, and willingness to work for The Connections made him the only member of Resident Evil 7’s Baker family who was not under control of Eveline. Given his mission in carrying out directives and tests for The Connections, it would make sense for him to be a Mastermind and deploy Eveline herself.

Eveline and Jack Baker
Given that Eveline herself, by the nature of the mold experiment she is in Resident Evil 7, is in many ways a Mastermind on a biological level, controlling members of the Baker family and having them carry out their directives would make her a suitable Mastermind as well, and not just a monstrosity to deploy. In consideration of the fact that Eveline is able to take control of a host which utilizes a video camera to send a video message to Ethan in Resident Evil 7, it would seem perfectly viable that she has the smarts to utilize a computer system and take advantage of all the functions of a Mastermind character in Resident Evil Resistance.
And while any one of the Baker family members can fulfill the creepiness and fright needed for the role of playing a threatening monstrosity, most fans would agree that Resident Evil 7’s Jack Baker is probably the most iconic and worthy of the bunch. Jack Baker resembles a stereotypical backwater serial killer, despite him being an actual victim when the storyline is.
Dr. Edward Kirk and Gigantasaurus
Since Resident Evil Resistance does not follow canon, the fun factor in turning Dino Crisis’ main antagonist, Dr. Edward Kirk, into a Mastermind would certainly be an interesting tribute to Capcom’s other classic survival horror franchise Dino Crisis. And nothing spells terror like Dino Crisis’ giant-sized Gigantasaurus to be unleashed on players if the map design would allow for it. Otherwise, any one of Dino Crisis’ reasonably sized dino meat eaters could suffice as a worthy addition to Resistance.
Many of these characters and villains come from different time periods in the chronology of Resident Evil’s universe. But given that Resident Evil Resistance is geared for fun factor and likely experimentation, and since Capcom has confirmed Resident Evil Resistance will not follow canon, it would appear that all options are on the table.
Hopefully, Resident Evil Resistance establishes a worthy online community successfully, and Capcom continues to support the title with new updates and content for a long term, and new villains would help define it strongly.
Resident Evil Resistance is bundled with Resident Evil 3 Remake and both will release for PS4, Xbox One and PC on April 3, 2020.
