Like many Resident Evil games prior, Resident Evil Village is scheduled to receive DLC. This was first announced in 2021, though Capcom has been relatively quiet about the details of the DLC since then. During Sony’s June 2022 State of Play event, it was revealed that Resident Evil Village will be making its way to PS VR2, sparking renewed interest in Resident Evil Village’s DLC that was conspicuously not mentioned. At this point, if the DLC ever does see the light of day, it will have some tall hurdles to leap over.

Resident Evil Village Set the Bar High
Capcom already had ideas for Resident Evil Village in 2016, before Resident Evil 7 was released. It was during this time that the developers decided to focus on the village and to turn the setting into a central aspect of the game. Capcom took care to learn from its past releases and experience with the Resident Evil franchise, and the goal was to combine the action elements of Resident Evil 4 with the slow-building survival horror elements of Resident Evil 7.
Fortunately for Capcom, it managed to find a good balance, and when the game launched in May 2021, it was a resounding success. To date, the game has sold around 6.1 million units worldwide, and it sits as one of the fastest-selling titles in the Resident Evil series. Resident Evil Village has also been lauded by critics, leading to the game snatching several awards, including the Ultimate Game of the Year award at 2021’s Golden Joystick Award show, the Best Performance award at The Game Awards 2021, and Steam’s 2021 Game of the Year award.
After the positive impression Resident Evil Village left on gamers, it will take a stellar DLC to live up to the expectations that the base game has set. It will require new scares, new Resident Evil enemies, and new ways to make sure that gamers are always on the edge of their seats. Fortunately, it is not an impossible task, as Resident Evil 7 proves that Capcom is capable of delivering quality DLC for the Resident Evil series.
The Hype for Resident Evil Village Is Already High
Capcom has kept its cards close to its chest when it comes to Resident Evil Village’s DLC, and gamers do not have too many concrete facts about the project. Capcom did confirm that development for the DLC is underway and that at least some of it will be free. In the past, Capcom has shown itself to be quite fond of dropping Resident Evil hints and clues, and they are occasionally so cryptic that one cannot be sure of what they truly mean.
In March 2022, Capcom tweeted out an image of Lady Dimitrescu along with a caption reading “a rat can’t run from the dragon’s claws!” and this led many gamers to believe that it was a hint at what Resident Evil Village’s DLC might be about. However, Capcom has yet to explain precisely what it meant with the tweet. The excitement that was generated by the tweet illustrates just how eager gamers are for some more Resident Evil Village. Consequently, there has already been speculation about which characters will make an appearance, and whether gamers will get to play as Mia Winters, Rose Winters, or Chris Redfield.
The future looks bright for Resident Evil fans, as they can look forward to Resident Evil 4 Remake, Resident Evil Village on PS VR2, and current-generation upgrades of Resident Evil 2 and 3. However, gamers have not forgotten about the Resident Evil Village DLC that Capcom promised is on the way. If it is anything like Resident Evil 7’s DLC, it is certain to be another unforgettable scare-fest.
Resident Evil Village is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
