With Resident Evil Village being the 8th major installment in the horror survival series, and the direct sequel of RE7: Biohazard, a lot seemed to be riding on the game’s launch last year. More than the remakes of RE2 or RE3, fans had high expectations of Village, not only because it continued the main plot of the franchise, but also due it being the first RE title to hit next-gen consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. However, players are likely glad that Resident Evil Village does not disappoint, as it continues to sell even though its first anniversary is drawing near.

On Capcom’s official website, the company released its compiled 3rd quarter report, stating its performance in 2021. This includes highlights for various titles such as Resident Evil Village topping 5.7 million units sold, as well as RE7: Biohazard continuing to rake in sales six years after it was released. The company also emphasized the awards the game won last year, including Ultimate Game of the Year at the 2021 Golden Joystick Awards. This is likely an indication that RE8 can be considered a success for the horror survival franchise.

Other significant news in the report also highlighted the sales of Capcom’s other video game series, such as Monster Hunter. In 2021, the company’s RPG title Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin was able to reach sales of 1.4 million units. And just recently, Monster Hunter Rise reported global sales of over 8 million copies. This gives a positive outlook for the franchise, given that MH Rise is releasing the Sunbreak DLC this 2022.

Fans of Resident Evil Village are likely going to hear more about the game’s sales results this 2022. The title continues to be lauded by video game authorities, even receiving nominations for Game of the Year in the Game Developers Choice Awards this 2022. With so many giving RE Village recognition, Capcom will likely see a boost in sales again, even though the company has not released any news for further updates for the title recently.

Resident Evil Village is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
