Mizrahi and Killinger show off a collection of abstract patterned shirts, one of which is green and blue. “It almost kind of looks like what the earth looks like when you’re a bazillion miles away from the planet moon,” Killinger notes. “Isn’t the moon a planet?” she then ponders aloud.
“No the moon is a planet darling,” Mizrahi responds.
“The sun is a star. Is the moon really a planet?” Killinger asks, and Mizrahi stands firm on his belief that the moon is indeed a planet.
The two continued bickering about whether the moon was a planet, after eliminating ‘star’ as a possibility.
“The moon is not a planet!” Killinger insists. “What else is it if it’s not a planet?” Mizrahi fires back.
“Didn’t you do that thing in grade school where you had to name planets and there was Uranus and Saturn and the one with the rings, and the Earth,” Killinger says. “The moon wasn’t in there, dude. It’s not a planet.”
The models standing by grew uncomfortable with the argument unfolding between the QVC host and fashion designer. One even began to laugh at the absurdity unfolding.
Killinger then shows off the sweater in key lime to kill the argument. It’s not over, however. “The moon is a natural satellite” Mizrahi continues. “Things live on it, that means it’s a planet.”
“I don’t like that at all,” Killinger continues, shocked at the idea of the moon being a natural satellite. “I don’t even know what that means.”
To settle this fiery debate, Mizrahi is not totally wrong. The moon is the earth’s only natural satellite. However, even though it I made out of rock and metal, much like Earth, Mercury, Venus and Mars, the moon is not a planet.
A planet is defined as “celestial body that (a) is in orbit around the Sun, (b) has sufficient mass for its gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a hydrostatic equilibrium (nearly round) shape, and (c) has cleared the neighborhood around its orbit,” according to the International Astronomical Union via Universe Today.
Therefore, the moon is not a planet because it does not revolve around the Sun.
