Before Returnal players start searching for these elusive Sunface Fragments, it’s important to understand the requirements to make them spawn. The most important thing is that players need to have already beaten Act 2 once, but they also need to have seen all five house sequences as well. This is a minor spoiler, but players will know they’ve completed the last house sequence when they learn the truth about what caused Helios to crash.

The first Sunface Fragment is located in the Overgrow Ruins biome, which by now should be fairly easy for players to get through. Although it may not be a guaranteed spawn, it seems as though the Sunface Fragment and the area it is found in are guaranteed to spawn the first time a player revisits the biome after seeing all house sequences. Finally, players will need the Delphic Visor in order to get this piece, but they should already have all of that by now.

While exploring the Overgrown Ruins, be sure to keep an eye out for side path doors. These are marked on the map with a triangle shape as opposed to the rectangular shape of main path doors, and often lead to collectibles, devices, and the like. The Sunface Fragment for this area will always be past a side path door, and it should be easy to tell if players are in the right place. After passing through the door, there should be a large gap that’s too wide to jump across. Look up slightly to see a Luminescent Orb. Shooting this will reveal platforms leading across the gap.

Hop across these platforms to reach an area with a few items. Assuming players meet all the aforementioned requirements, there should be a blue glow emanating from one of Selene’s less fortunate counterparts. Scan this to find the first of six Sunface Fragments. Now it’s on to the Crimson Wastes, but it’s up to players to decide if they’d like to fight Phrike again first.

Returnal is available now on PS5.
