Say hello to Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance from Platinum Games, a game that looks like a cross-over between Vanquish and Bayonetta. Needlesss to say, the radical departure from stealth-based gameplay has generated mixed reactions.

The reveal trailer for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance demonstrated extreme Bayonetta-esque action but it was nothing like Metal Gear Solid 4. If you’re a fan who was hoping for a game that hold true to the franchise’s traditional gameplay mechanics, don’t fret. You’ll still get that.

While hosting a Metal Gear Rising press conference, Kojima confirmed at the conference and on Twitter that Revengeance is a spin-off to offer a fun alternative for fans. He reassures us that a true-to-form Metal Gear Solid sequel is on the way.

Metal Gear Solid 5 is on its way and it’ll serve the core fanbase. In a way, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is to Metal Gear Solid what Operation Raccoon City is to Resident Evil. It’s a new genre for the brand to serve a new audience while also offering loyal fans something different, while the main franchise continues the way hardcore fans desire.

So, enjoy it for what it is because if you do dig high-paced extreme action, Platinum Games can certainly deliver. As we found out yesterday, Revengeance now takes place in the future instead of between Metal Gear Solid 2 & 4, as we follow cyborg Raiden getting caught up in a civil war.
